SDAITC celebrates 2024-2025 Garden Support Program recipients

Congratulations to this year’s recipients of San Diego Ag in the Classroom’s Garden Support Program. For 29 years, SDAITC has proudly supported local schools eager to develop and/or implement school gardens that enhance agricultural education for kindergartners to High School seniors.

In February, SDAITC awarded 13 schools with funding to either expand, improve or rebuild existing school gardens. The funding will be used to purchase plants, trees, seed or seedlings to produce food, and flowers to attract pollinators. Awardees can also purchase tools, fertilizer, soil, irrigation supplies, and other gardening materials needed to plant crops this spring and protect the crops from pests and rodents. Several schools shared that they would use the support to build farm stands to sell the produce they grow and teach their students about sales and marketing. Because of SDAITC’s Garden Support Program, hundreds of students, teachers and parents will gain hands-on experience in the garden, while learning the art and science of growing vegetables, fruit and flowers.

Congratulations, again, to this year’s awardees. We look forward to learning about their progress and the beauty it adds to their schools. This program would not be possible without the generous donors and supporters of SDAITC, and the passionate Board Members and volunteers who make this program possible every year.
