Janet Kister and her husband started Sunlet Nursery, Inc. in 1985. Sunlet Nursery is a wholesale grower of florist quality indoor and outdoor flowering plants, located on 26 acres in sunny Fallbrook, California. Janet believes that San Diego County’s near perfect climate makes it an ideal location to live as well as to grow crops. She states “It is no wonder that we have the fifth largest population amongst counties in the United States while also having agriculture rank as one of the top five industries in the county. This allows SDAITC a great opportunity to connect a large urban population of students with where their food, fiber and flowers come from. While many of them are generations removed from the farm, ag literacy in the schools will teach them the benefits and importance of local agriculture, as well as introduce them to future career opportunities.” Janet also serves the California Department of Food and Ag, Nursery Advisory Board, San Diego County Farm Bureau, Joseph Shinoda Memorial Scholarship Foundation, San Diego County Flower and Plant Association, Society of American Florists, and American Hort.
